WOODWORK > Carving

I consider wood carving a form of sculpture, with individualistic characteristics because of the peculiarities and particularities of each different species of wood. In carving, wood is being shaped by removing material from a chunk of wood. Once it is removed, this material cannot be put back. So understanding the nature of the piece of wood to be carved becomes important for reducing the possibility of accidental cuts, breaks and loss of material.
